On November 24, 2009, the seniors of St. Bernard Parish were treated to a feast of turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll and warm apple cobbler. A Pilgrim and Indian were on hand to welcome everyone to the first Thanksgiving in the new building. Kiwanis members joined the festivities by serving the meals and The Parish DJ played tunes to help everyone ‘work off’ the pounds. The seniors bowled their way to riches, took chances on 50/50, guessed how many kisses in the jar and won door prizes.
COUNCIL ON AGING NOW SERVING HOME DELIVERED MEALS
The St. Bernard Council on Aging has restarted their Home Delivered Meals Program. Eligible participants for the home delivered nutrition services are persons aged 60 or older who are homebound by reason of illness, incapacitating disability or are otherwise isolated. Homebound participants must be persons unable to leave home without assistance and they must have no one available to provide assistance in the preparation and consumption of a meal. Assessments are done on each individual who request the service, to determine if they qualify. For more information, call the St. Bernard COA at 504-278-7335. Carol Shahine is in charge of this program.
